What Happened?
AbbVie (ABBV) now lets Crohn’s patients start Skyrizi at home, and when that reaches sales depends on how fast insurers move. Late on October 23, the FDA approved a subcutaneous induction regimen for Skyrizi in adults with moderately to severely active Crohn’s disease. Skyrizi has been approved for Crohn’s in the U.S. since 2022, but treatment had to begin with IV infusions; patients can now take the first doses at home with an on-body injector. Shares closed at $285.64 on October 23, up 0.16%, with third-quarter results due before the open on October 30.
The Label Delivers the 45-Point Gap Thakkar Flagged in September
At Morgan Stanley’s healthcare conference on September 15, Head of R&D and Chief Scientific Officer Roopal Thakkar pointed to “45% deltas for endoscopic response and clinical remission in that treatment-naive population,” the group where Skyrizi is positioned today. The label delivers. By Week 12, 74% of patients new to advanced therapy reached clinical remission against 27% on placebo, and 60% reached endoscopic response against 15%. Results were weaker in the roughly 65% of the 274 patients who had failed an advanced therapy: 45% remission against 31%.
The approval closes a gap rather than opening one. Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) won U.S. approval for Tremfya with both subcutaneous and IV induction in Crohn’s in March 2025, about 19 months earlier. The same release carried a broader change: across every approved Skyrizi indication, tuberculosis testing before treatment is now left to doctors’ judgment rather than required, including in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

Stewart’s 90-Day Clock Puts the Payoff After the October 30 Print
Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Stewart set the timetable on September 15. He said full paid access “will probably take 60 or 90 days,” which he called typical, because the regimen must go through a formulary acceptance process. From October 23, that runs to about December 22 through January 21, leaving the fourth quarter with little paid access. It feeds a franchise that sold $17.562 billion in 2025. Parkinson’s drug Juvmo (tavapadon), approved in late September, starts slowly too: Stewart said AbbVie “sort of missed the window for sort of Medicare reimbursement for ‘27.”
On October 30, management’s third-quarter revenue guide is around $17.2 billion, against a 20-analyst average of around $17.3 billion, about 10% above last year’s $15.776 billion. AbbVie beat the average revenue estimate in each of the last five quarters, though EBIT missed in three of them, and adjusted EPS guidance of $3.73 to $3.77 absorbs a $216 million acquired IPR&D and milestones charge.

The mid case, the one the summary card reports for its December 31, 2030 horizon, puts AbbVie at around $364, about 27% above the October 23 close, or about 6% a year. The model’s separate 2025 to 2035 mid-case table assumes revenue growth around 5% a year, a net income margin near 42%, EPS growth around 9% a year, and a slightly shrinking P/E multiple.
Chairman and CEO Rob Michael argued the opposite on September 15: “I think there’s obviously more room for multiple expansion as the pipeline matures.” The forward normalized P/E has already risen from around 15x on March 31 to around 19x, roughly level with Amgen (AMGN) and above Gilead Sciences (GILD) at around 17x, so further gains lean on earnings. Upside comes if at-home starts widen Skyrizi’s lead with new Crohn’s patients. Downside comes if Tremfya’s head start holds share and the multiple gives back its gains since March.
Conclusion
The October 30 call is the first chance to hear whether insurers are moving faster than Stewart’s 60-to-90-day estimate. Revenue above the roughly $17.3 billion average would extend the five-quarter run of beats. The figure that settles the approval’s value comes later: Skyrizi’s first-quarter 2027 sales, the first quarter with paid access in place for most of its weeks.
