Key Takeaways
- Aurora Innovation shares fell 12% after a six-week production delay cut its 2026 revenue outlook to about $9 million.
- The trouble is on the production line, and demand looks intact, with Charger Logistics planning a 500-truck fleet.
- Aurora expects to burn about $250 million of cash this quarter, with just over $1 billion on hand.
- The next test is 20 trucks a week by early December, which matters for Fabrinet and Uber as well.
Aurora Innovation (AUR) stock is down 12% today after the driverless-truck company said its production ramp is running about six weeks behind plan.
That ramp matters to two bigger companies. Fabrinet (FN) builds Aurora’s current hardware kits, and Uber Technologies (UBER) has held a stake in Aurora since selling it Uber’s self-driving unit in 2020.
The holdup is on the line
Aurora said after Wednesday’s close that material availability, component quality and end-of-line testing problems slowed its early output. On the call, CEO Chris Urmson called them “preproduction bottlenecks.”
So Aurora now expects about $9 million of 2026 revenue, where analysts were looking for $15 million, with the real growth in 2027 and 2028:

The bigger question is whether 2027’s $188 million holds, and that rides on how fast the trucks get built.
Demand looks fine. Charger Logistics signed a preliminary deal to own and operate 500 Aurora-powered trucks, which Aurora says could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Aurora still expects 20 trucks a week by early December, more than 200 trucks by the end of February and more than 1,000 on the road by the end of 2027.
For Fabrinet, the dollars are small next to its $4.64 billion of fiscal 2026 revenue. Aurora didn’t say whether its kits were part of the component-quality problems, so that’s the question for Fabrinet’s report early next week.
Uber books gains and losses on its equity stakes in net income: they added $1.6 billion in the second quarter, so a lasting slide in Aurora would cut the other way.

The cash clock
Aurora’s free cash flow has been negative every quarter for two years:

It expects that burn to rise to about $250 million this quarter. Aurora also sold $41 million of stock in the third quarter and filed a prospectus supplement minutes after its results.
Early December is the test
My take: A six-week slip on a new production line doesn’t break the story, and Charger’s plan shows the demand is there. But Aurora can’t afford many more slips while it burns this much cash and sells stock to fund it.
If it hits 20 trucks a week in early December, today’s drop will look overdone. Another slip, and I’d expect more share sales.
